After having worked on “far north” I decided to make this into a series, exploring different and sometimes obscure places. So I
decided to pick the aesthetic of a downtown. Taken from the cold desolate north, and in to your local downtown where the cats wait to go outside until it gets dark, where the street lights become their sun, and where the people is about to finally wake up.
The feeling of a downtown is hard to reproduce when it comes to the sound, but I think I ended up with a good result. One thing I think is apparent with the sound of a downtown is that you really hear life in motion, the people going out and having a good time.
My depiction of a downtown is of course at night, the street lights guide people around town in the darkness. I based my themes on the downtown where I come from, Holmestrand, but I think the sound works either way, another place where you also can hear the night culture. In the distance you can also hear the sound of speed, the cars driving on the highway. I also based some of the sound from my best friend’s place, a place where we could sit up until 4 am and make music. That place is called Snekkestad, which turns mysterious and intriguing when it’s dark outside.
