When I planned which places I’d “visit” in this series, a very spesific place seemed to resurface whenever I thought about it. Not a spesific town, county or state, but rather an aesthetic, and a sound that’s not often been explored before. I’m talking about a place somewhere down there. I’ve already “been” up north, so now it was time to go south. Unlike the other EPs in the series where the locations would be more up to your imagination, with a little guide from me, this time it would be me giving you a local map from this certain area. The sound of the south, then I know exactly who I’d make sure to listen to before digging in to the samples. My best friend who’s really dug into this and my main inspiration, Diplo from his early Florida years, when he made his debut album “Florida” and his promo CD “Sound and Fury”, which to me has this incredible “southern” sound to it when it comes to the abstract hip-hop or leftfield genre. I’ve been to Florida myself, and could really feel the essence heard in his work, strangely. So there should be no
surprise that this EP takes place in Florida and the surrounding states. Especially the swamps, a place where you could go on
an alligator safari. Where you’ll get fried in the sun. If you’re
adventurous you should check out the pine rocklands. Travel into rural communities and hear about how you should support
your local travel agents. Stay for a day and watch the
sunset over the glades. Speaking of Everglades, don’t venture to far into it, or you’ll meet the hippies in the swamp, where you’d really hear the fury. All in all this EP is really just a dedication to Wes and all his friends from that time.
